TreChinese Railways’ ad urging women to avoid wearing make-up inside the train has come under fire. There is criticism from many parts of the country that the government’s action is gender discriminatory. A promotional video released by Railways mentions the women’s make-up. A stylishly dressed young woman tries to apply lotion and foundation on her face while traveling on a high-speed intercity train. Suddenly, the young man next to him calls out to the young woman.

The young man’s face can be seen covered with foundation powder due to the speed of the train. The young man tells the young woman that he does not want to wear make-up. The video then shows the young woman apologizing to the young man.

But the criticism is that the government advertisement is quite provocative. Protesters say that opposing women wearing make-up is a sexist act and if the government takes this stance, women will soon be banned from traveling on trains. The Chinese rail video was released two months ago. The video that went viral on social media is now the talk of the town in China.

But the government’s explanation is that the advertisement was misunderstood and there was no intention of gender discrimination. Such incidents are regularly happening in trains and on the basis of complaints, it was requested that make-up should be avoided inside the train. The authorities also informed that women are not prohibited from wearing make-up.
