Chinese sex workers increasingly visible in a Brussels neighborhood

“Students of any higher establishment can fall into prostitution”

At the beginning of January, the neighborhood committee of Alhambra noted on its Facebook page the fact that more and more Chinese sex workers were active in street prostitution. This committee would itself know four addresses where these people meet their clientele.

According to the mayor, the phenomenon is known to the morals section of the Brussels-Ixelles police zone. To fully understand the phenomenon, a large number of checks and identifications are carried out.

“Initially, Chinese sex workers were only active in private prostitution through advertisements, on some websites and through Chinese social media channels. Today, we see that a small part tries also to attract customers on the street, even if it is limited,” he continued.

There are regular consultations with the Brussels public prosecutor’s office and the other police areas to discuss all the phenomena linked to prostitution and human trafficking, the mayor further assured.
