Choo Shin-soo (39, SSG Landers) gave up his plan to leave the United States. He tried to return to the United States during the season after his wife, Won-mi Ha, tested positive for the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), but in the end decided not to board the plane.
Choo Shin-soo started as the 4th designated hitter in the 2021 Shinhan Bank Sol KBO League KIA Tigers match held at SSG Landers Field on the 28th. This is his first four batter appearances since his debut in the KBO league this year.
However, after choosing a walk in the first at-bat at the end of the second inning, he was immediately replaced by Han Yu-seom. It was to prepare to leave for the United States with his family.
An official from the SSG club explained, “Cho Shin-soo’s wife was diagnosed with COVID-19. Choo Shin-soo was excluded from the game to receive a PCR test.”
Choo Shin-soo heard the news of his wife’s COVID-19 infection just before the match. After the PCR test, if there was no abnormality, he decided to leave for the United States, but in the end Shin-soo Choo turned away and decided not to board the plane to the United States.
An SSG official said, “Recently, my wife strongly discouraged Choo Shin-soo from coming to the United States amid poor team performance. I decided not to go there,” he explained.
