This Saturday was held, from Houffalize, the “Chouffe Classic.” Three routes were offered to cyclists. This mass, popular event takes place on the open road. And if the debriefing has not yet been done, there is already a certainty for next year: the Commune of Rendeux will no longer give authorization for the demonstration to cross its entity.
Quite annoyed, the mayor Cédric Lerusse already points to an error in the authorization request: “It had been requested for May 14, i.e. this Sunday, and not for May 13, the actual day of the event” he slips. However, this Saturday, several local events were held in his town, including the flower market in Marcourt, which attracts a large audience: “Fortunately, this market takes place in the afternoon. I can’t imagine the problems that would have arisen if this had been set up in the morning, when the majority of cyclists have passed” he also explains.
It makes: “Of course, and that’s a majority, cyclists respect the rules of the highway code. But a minority don’t and not only take risks but actually run at other road users. Let’s add to a total lack of flaggers and heavy tourist traffic”.
The measure will therefore be radical next year, like what was done for a similar event, the Sean Kelly, a few years ago, for identical reasons.
