Christian Leaders Call for Global Day of Prayer for Iran on August 14

Leaders of global prayer movements are urging Christians to intercede on August 14th for the spiritual stronghold of Iran, aiming to secure regional freedom and global harvest. The mobilization follows weeks of fasting and comes as organizers point to biblical precedents for spiritual breakthroughs in the Middle East.

Global Mobilization and the August 14 Gathering

Prayer leaders Dutch Sheets and Lou Engle are rallying believers worldwide to participate in an August 14th service hosted at Oasis Church in Middletown, Ohio, which will also be livestreamed globally. The gathering initially focused on physical healing, according to Sheets, but shifted to emphasize Iran and a global harvest after a meeting of national and international prayer leaders.

Lou Engle, founder of TheCall, described the event as a divine invitation. “It is a divine invitation to contend for breakthrough at a pivotal moment in history,” Engle said. Engle has carried a burden in his spirit for Iran for weeks, noting that the alignment of these plans suggests a call from Heaven to respond.

Spiritual Warfare and the Prince of Persia

The August 14 gathering follows 21 days of intercession and fasting that began on July 24th, targeting the spiritual principality referred to in the Bible as the prince of Persia. Promoters of the initiative compared the duration to the biblical prophet Daniel, who interceded for 21 days before receiving a breakthrough.

Dutch Sheets explained on his podcast that wars often invite spiritual forces of darkness that attempt to control populations through violence and an insatiable craving for power. Sheets characterized the Islamist terrorist regime in Iran as ruthless and bloodthirsty, driven by a hatred of Israel and the United States. According to Sheets, the regime aims to dominate the Middle East and eventually rule the world using nuclear weapons, supported by proxies such as Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthis.

“The goal of the spiritual powers behind this regime is to stop or interrupt the spiritual harvest God has planned for the Middle East and the world,” Sheets stated.

Historical Timing and Next Steps

Organizers have also noted historical markers surrounding the date of the upcoming gathering. Sheets pointed out that the first version of the Iranian flag was adopted on August 14, 1905.

As momentum builds for the livestreamed service, prayer warriors across multiple time zones are expected to join the event from international locations. Engle expressed hope that the united spiritual offensive will shift history and bring hope to a nation longing for freedom.
