Christopoulos on the next day of Apollo: “There are various “fermentations”” – 2024-04-09 11:38:43

Apollon won 89-79 against AEK, in a match for the 2nd game of the 3rd round of the Basket League and the coach of Patrina, Yiannis Christopoulos, spoke to WebRadio with Elena Vogiatzis and Yiannis Lampiris. He said in detail:

For the fact that, despite being indifferent in points, they beat AEK: “It is very important what we can teach young children and people who are taking their first steps in sports. This is the most important motivation, that regardless of problems or ability, what you should do is strive and be satisfied with what you have done. The result does not always depend on you, but this is the most important part and this is how healthy sport is “cultivated”.

On how they handle relegated situations: “For sure there is sadness, for sure experiencing these difficult situations for many months, at least while I’m in the team, is not easily manageable. For the athletes and everyone in the team to manage our emotions, it takes a lot of strength, which sometimes we do, sometimes not. This is what sport means, this is respect and being responsible for what you do and serving all your life, being part of a sports team and the ultimate goal should be victory, regardless of difficulties or problems.”

For the remaining games: “We will try to continue to be competitive and we will fight with all our strength. We are obliged to do this to ourselves and to history, but also to the institution. Even in this way we can leave a positive impression and teach what professional sports means.”

For the psychology part of his players: “From the first moment I came to the team, everyone knew that it was a very difficult competition program, which could not have a positive outcome if things were not implemented at a level of perfection. We had a very difficult schedule which did not allow us to compete at home against opponents of our level. All the matches were against teams that were ranked higher and that have a bigger name and history. For small and medium-sized teams, the home factor is a very important part. We had to respond to away games, which we failed to do. We tried to be competitive in every venue where we played, in the matches against PAOK, Lavrio and Peristeri we managed to be very competitive for 3 quarters, but we could not “close” the games as we wanted.

For the last 2.5 months we have been struggling without our best player and 1st scorer, Bibbs, as well as having multiple and consecutive injuries to important players or losses of athletes. We have to address the power that we were trying to create from each other and get in front of each other so that we are competitive. We strive for this in every training session and discuss every time that this is what we should do.”

To support the world: “Apollo is traditionally one of the teams with the largest number of tickets. If I’m not mistaken, after the two big teams and Aris, they are the team with the most tickets. He has proven this with his presence over the years in A1 and A2. He traditionally plays to an almost full stadium and the crowd responds and supports the effort. It’s a natural consequence when there’s an insufficient season that it leaves its mark, but I think the most important thing is that people show that they love the team and will continue to support it.”

For the next day of Apollo: “I know that there are various “fermentations” and discussions between the people of the group. The team will not be left to their own devices, I have received that. Efforts will be made to present the way a team like Apollo should be presented in the future. I can’t say more details, but I know that they have already started and are discussing how the team should be structured and function in the competitive, social and business aspects”.
