The statement of the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Christos Staikouras, made news in the Parliament, when he answered a topical question submitted by the Member of Parliament for Achaia of SYRIZA-PS, Andreas Panagiotopoulos, regarding the works of the Aegio-Rio and Rio-Aktis Dymaion lines.
As Christos Staikouras stated in his introduction:
“Regarding the questions raised in your question, we inform you that:
1st. The following projects are underway in the area from Aigio to Rio:
– Electrification of the new double railway line in the Kiato – Aegio section and up to the Rododafni area.
– Construction of railway stations (buildings, docks, shelter and surrounding area), infrastructure, electrification, signaling – remote control, ETCS and telecommunications for the new railway line in the Rododafni – Rio section.
At the same time, in the section from Psathopyrgos to Rio, part of the infrastructure works has been built by a contract which could not be completed and, in August 2023, ERGOSE proceeded to dissolve it”.
In his appeal, Mr. Staikouras continued as follows:
“For completion of the line from Rio to Patras and its connection with the new Port of Patras, is in tender process with “Competitive Dialogue” the contract for “study-construction” of the project “Completion of the new double railway line Kiato – Patras in the section Rio – new Port of Patras”with an estimated budget of 477 million euros.
In the subject of the project it is the construction of a new double railway line in the section Rio – New Port of Patras, 10.2 km long, with undergrounding it in a length of approximately 5.2 km, for its passage from the city of Patras (from Kanellopoulou to Agios Andreas), with construction of eight (8) stops, of which five (5) are in the underground section.
In December 2023, the B Stage (Dialogue with participants) of the Competition was completed and at the present time the Issues are being prepared for the start of the B.II Stage (Invitation to submit a financial binding offer).
A condition for concluding a contract is securing co-financing from European Union funds.
In January 2024, a relevant Application for funding from the “Mechanism Connecting Europe” 2021-2027 was submitted and its evaluation by the services of the European Union is expected by the end of the first half of 2024″.
