What do we hope to learn with samples from the asteroid Bénnu?

A few days ago, NASA recovered samples from this asteroid. This collection is the culmination of an ambitious mission begun in 2016 with the launch of the Osiris-Rex probe.

Bénnu, a near-Earth asteroid, orbits the Sun. This crosses that of the Earth.

Despite this “characteristic”, the risks of collision remain very low, if not zero, for the next 150 years.

That said, why did NASA embark on this collection, when every year hundreds of asteroid debris fall to Earth, in the form of meteorites? Why was this sample collection called “historic” and what do we hope to learn from this handful of “made in Space” stones?
