The Ottawa Senators have acquired the defenseman Jakob Chychrun of the Arizona Coyotes on Wednesday.
In return, Ottawa gave up a conditional first-round pick in 2023, a conditional second-round pick in 2024, previously acquired from the Washington Capitals, and a second-round pick in 2026.
Should Ottawa’s 2023 first-round pick end up in the top-5 of the draft order, Ottawa will then give their 2024 first-round pick to the Coyotes.
If the Senators reach the Eastern Conference Finals in 2023, then Ottawa will hand a 2024 first-round pick to the Coyotes rather than Washington’s second-round pick. However, if that 2024 Senators first-round pick is in the top-10 of the draft, then it will be Ottawa’s 2025 first-round pick that Arizona receives.
Chychrun is in the fourth season of a six-year deal he signed with the Coyotes on Nov. 13, 2018. He could become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the 2024-25 season.
The 24-year-old defenseman has 28 points (7 goals, 21 assists) in 36 games this season. He had to wait until November 21 to play his first match due to a wrist injury.
Selected by Arizona in the first round (16th) of the 2016 draft, Chychrun had 170 points (60 goals, 110 assists) in 373 regular season games, in addition to having one goal in nine playoff games.
Earlier in the day, the Coyotes traded the defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere to the Carolina Hurricanes for a 2025 third-round pick.
