[뉴욕=뉴스핌]Correspondent Geun-cheol Kim = It is reported that William Burns, Director of the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), met with the head of the Israeli intelligence agency Mossad and the Prime Minister of Qatar on the 18th (local time) in Warsaw, the capital of Poland, to discuss the issue of releasing hostages kidnapped by the Palestinian armed organization Hamas.

The New York Times (NYT) and others, citing U.S. officials who requested anonymity, said their meeting was taking place amid growing pressure on the Israeli military to resume negotiations to rescue hostages held by Hamas in the wake of the recent mistaken killings of three Israeli hostages. It was reported that it was done.

Director Burns, Mossad Director David Varnia, and Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani met twice last month to coordinate temporary ceasefire negotiations for the exchange and release of hostages.

At the time, through negotiations, Israel and Hamas agreed to a temporary ceasefire, and 105 hostages, including women and children, were released. However, negotiations to extend the ceasefire have collapsed, and it is reported that about 100 hostages are still being held by Hamas and related organizations.

Meanwhile, foreign media quoted Al-Jazari Broadcasting as saying that Hamas’ spokesman Osama Hamdan said that there would be no negotiations for the release of hostages until Israel’s war of aggression stops.

“We are open to any proposals from Egypt and Qatar to exchange Israeli hostages and Palestinian prisoners,” he said at a press conference held in Beirut, Lebanon.

Meanwhile, Al-Qassam Brigades, a Hamas military organization, released a video on Telegram that day showing three Israeli hostages in their 70s appealing for their release.

In the video, a man who identified himself as Haim Berry, a 79-year-old former kibbutz resident, appealed for the urgent release of the hostages, saying they were all in dire conditions.

In response to this, Israeli military chief spokesman Daniel Hagiri dismissed it as “a propaganda war by Hamas” and criticized the release of the hostage video as a terrible act of terrorism.
