The Ostrava Athletic Hall hosted another year of the already traditional international meeting, the Czech Indoor Gala. This year, for the first time, it falls into the highest Gold category of the WAIT series. In its course, four of this year’s best world performances and six meeting records were on display.

Performances of the year for Klaver, Haila and Nader

The women’s 400 meter race had the same winner as last year. The Dutchwoman Lieke Klaver repeated her Ostrava primacy, and in addition improved her own record of the meeting to 50.54, which is 46 hundredths faster than she managed this distance in Ostrava last year. At the same time, she rose to the top of this year’s world charts. Henriette Jaeger won second place in the Norwegian national record of 51.57. The third is over Lada Vondrová for 52.05. Nikoleta Jíchová enjoyed a personal record of 52.78. Our other quarterbacks didn’t do so well. Tereza Petržilková (53.33) a Lurdes Gloria Manuel (54.18) did not avoid collisions and after the finish there was great disappointment for them.

The women’s one-mile race made its debut at the Czech Indoor Gala, and it was truly spectacular. Ethiopian favorites dominated. The representatives of this East African running power occupied the first four positions. The winner, Freweyni Hailu, significantly improved this year’s world best performance of 4:17.36 and reached sixth place on the all-time world charts. Hailu ran the fifteenth in 4:01.03 and thus became the new record holder of the meeting and the leading woman in the current world tables at this distance as well. The second Hirut Meshesha also reached the TOP 10 of the same statistics with a performance of 4:19.53. Sixth Dane Sofia Thogersen shined with a new junior European record of 4:29.31. Simona Vrzalová she finished tenth in 4:35.76 and Diana Mezulianíková
she finished eleventh in 4:36.60.

The best world performance of the 2024 indoor season up to third place was achieved by the Portuguese Isaac Nader on the 1500 meters track. He became the new leader of this year’s statistics thanks to a time of 3:34.23. In Ostrava, he performed superbly, and in addition to winning, he also became one of the record holders of this event. He improved the time of Briton Elliot Giles from 2022 by 1.7 seconds. The second Swede, Samuel Pihlström, presented himself with a national record of 3:35.47. Filip Sasínek he finished fifth in a solid time of 3:37.99. Nico Boketta was ninth in 3:42.50.

Two more meeting records

The recent co-holder of the national record chose her share of bad luck in the women’s 60 Karolina Manasova. Unfortunately, she tripped very soon after the start and was unable to return to the race. The result was eighth place and a time of 7.56. The best Czech in the race was fifth Natalia Kožuškaničová for 7.38. The paper assumptions were confirmed by the leading woman of this year’s world tables, Ewa Swoboda. The Polish woman flew the straight in a new meeting record of 7.07. Michelle-Lee Ahye cut three hundredths off her eight-year-old record. Luxembourg record holder Patrizia van der Weken also achieved a very good time of 7.17.

The record of the meeting did not stand even in the 60 women’s obstacles. Its new holder is Poland’s Pia Skrzyszkowska, who improved the year-old record of Nadine Visser of the Netherlands by four hundredths to 7.82. Like last year, Visser had to settle for second place in 7.93. The third Irishwoman Sarah Lavin achieved the same time. Of the Czech competitors, she only advanced Tereza Elena Šinová. Ladislav Kárský’s protege sprinted to eighth place in a quality race in 8.14. Helena Jiranová she ran a season best 8.15 in the heat.

Sejt is the Gala champion for the fourth time

Slovenian pole vaulter Tina Šutej won her fourth triumph at the Czech Indoor Gala. This year, she did not find a conqueror thanks to the performance of 473 centimeters. She made the Ostrava audience happy with the second place Amálie Švábíková. Štěpán Janáček’s ward improved her season’s maximum to 463 centimeters. Subsequently, she still attempted to overcome 473, which would mean moving her national record. So far, however, this value has resisted her. Italian Roberta Bruni was third at 453 centimeters. Even the fifth could have been satisfied with her performance
Nikola Pöschlovawho successfully transferred over 443 centimeters, and this is her second most valuable career performance.

Home triumphs by Müller and Kubelík

In the sum of both men’s 400 meter races, the fastest time was recorded by the winner of the first Vit Müller, who completed two laps in 46.26. Hungarian Atilla Molnár, the winner of the second run, was two hundredths slower (46.28). The imaginary bronze medal will be taken by Switzerland’s Lionel Spitz (46.53). He was the second fastest Czech representative Matej Krsek for 46.45. Patrick Schorm (46.68) a Pavel Maslak (47.01) broke their season highs.

He scored the second Czech victory Eduard Kubelík at two hundred. He again showed that he is doing well in the Ostrava hall when he beat all his rivals in the sum of both runs and won the prized first place at the gold meeting in a new personal record of 20.66, which moved him to second place in Czech history between Pavel Maslák and Radek Zachoval . The one-year-old meeting record of the Cuban Reynier Mena lost only two hundredths of a second. He also got under 21 seconds
Ondřej Macík (20.95) On the contrary, it narrowly failed Jan Jirko
(21.05). Among the foreign competitors, the fastest Pole was Albert Komanski in 20.93.

Juška tormented the favorite, Staněk a close second

The expected winner of the long-distance race was the Greek champion Miltiadis Tentoglou, who reached 809 centimeters and claimed his third victory at the Czech Indoor Gala. However, it was not about any fundamental dominance in his performance. To the enthusiasm of the Ostrava hall, he was a balanced opponent of the Czech record holder Radek Juška. Although he recorded only 761 centimeters after two crosses in the third series, he was able to significantly improve to 803 centimeters in the next attempt and thus continued his eight-meter form from the summer season. Also Petr Meindlschmid he recorded the longest attempt in the fourth series, measuring 761 centimeters, good enough for seventh place in the overall standings.

Tomas Stanek he opened the shot putter competition with two crosses, but in the third heat he had a great shot, sending his implement to a distance of 21.33, which put him in the lead, where he held until the final heat. In that one, the American Roger Steen got ahead of him when he recorded 21.38, which was enough for him to win. New Zealander Tom Walsh took third place in 21.17.

Dudych again improved the junior record

The men’s half was dominated by Botswanan Tshepiso Masalela in his first ever indoor start. The sixth man from last year’s world championship, with his winning time of 1:46.41, was not too far behind the four-year-old meeting record of the Kenyan Collins Kiprut, specifically by three hundredths. The second Italian Catalin Tecuceanu (1:46.90) also lowered his time below 1:47. Pole Mateusz Borkowski was third (1:47.33). He was the fourth best of the Czech half-carriers Jakub Dudycha, who, despite a number of collisions, finished in a new junior national record of 1:47.42. He improved his own record by 33 hundredths. He was rewarded for his brave tactics with a nice personal best of 1:47.54 Daniel Kotyza. He ran right behind him to the finish line Filip Šnejdr (1:47.60).

The final of the men’s sprint at 60 meters went to the Japanese Yoshihide Kiryu, who also decorated his primacy with a new national record of his homeland of 6.53. Second Joshua Hartmann from Germany (6.57) also confirmed his good form from the last few days, and Sweden’s Henrik Larsson (6.59) crossed the finish line as third. He was the only Czech sprinter who managed to advance to the final Jan Veleba. He finished eighth in 6.80 (6.76 in the heat).

National program

We have already seen some interesting performances in the national program of the meeting. There were even two juvenile national records on display. Filip Toul beat his own record on the 1500 meters by almost four seconds to 3:48.76 and was just not enough for the winner Michal Hroch (3:48.11).

Filip Vojáček took care of the second winner of this category in the 200m. The protégé of the Rudovy family flew this track in 21.58, thus moving the previous record of Matěj Krsko from 2016 by four hundredths. Like Toul, he also found only one conqueror, the Slovak Matej Baluch (21.47).

Patrik Dömöter, the fastest man of the pre-program Thursday, also recorded a solid time. The Slovak representative managed two circuits in a time of 47.34. Natálie Kožuškaničová (23.83) ran the best time of the three races in the 200m. Štěpán Schubert mastered the 60 obstacles in a time of 7.90. The second Jonáš Kolomazník was under eight seconds for the first time in his career (7.99). Terezia Táborská was just two hundredths behind her career best with a time of 7.52. The young fourth-placers Karolína Mitanová (54.60) and Mariá Klapuchová (54.74) flashed with nice personals.
