The La Neuveville cinema celebrates its 100th anniversary. Opened in 1923 by Alfred Aquadro, a visionary photographer from La Neuveville, the venerable theater has survived the decades without trembling until the 90s. It was then Ciné2520, an entirely voluntary association, which took over to continue to keep the places. To celebrate these 100 years with great fanfare, she is organizing a big party this Saturday around the theme of the 1920s.

A little history

Built in 1876 in La Neuveville, this building firstly housed a museum. It was at the instigation of a visionary photographer from the medieval city, a certain Alfred Aquadro, that the first cinema in Neuville, called “Le Cinéma du Musée”, opened its doors in 1923. The small business quickly met with great success. and employs around ten people. In 1968, it was the son, Gaston Aquadro, who took over the reins of the family business with his wife. The couple operated the small hall until 1992, when the projectionist, Vito Todisco, took a well-deserved retirement. After a short transition period, the Ciné2520 association was created. She still operates the cinema today with passion and entirely on a voluntary basis.

A question of will

Few people would have bet on such great longevity 100 years ago. And yet, a century later, the La Neuveville cinema is still standing. A sustainability that is not a miracle. “I think we can say that it is above all a popular will which was particularly marked in 1995 when it was necessary to vote for a credit for the renovation of the building and the cinema room”, explains Joëlle Ziegler, co -president of Ciné2520.

100 years is worth celebrating

To celebrate this anniversary, the Ciné2520 association organized a big party this Saturday. For a day, the population of La Neuveville and elsewhere is invited to rediscover the charm of the 1920s through several activities including guided tours of the building, a magic show and of course film screenings for young and old. big ones like “The Princess and the Frog” or “The Great Gatsby”.
