Cinema Fósforo summer film series program – University Life

The Cinema Fósforo, located on the top floor of the Civil College University Cultural Centeroffers during the summer the film cycle entitled “Summer Odysseys”, where the second season of the year has a significant place within the four selected stories.

The cycle is made up of the films:

“Kikujiro”. Dir. Takeshi Kitano. Year: 1999. Country: Japan. August 7.
Adventureland. Dir. Greg Mottola. Year: 2009. Country: United States. August 14.
“Psychotropic morning”. Dir. Alexandro Aldrete. Year: 2015. Country: Mexico. August 21.
“Skate kitchen”. Dir. Crystal Moselle. Year: 2018. Country: USA, UK and Brazil. August 28.

All screenings start at 7:00 p.m. Admission is free and is aimed at teenagers and adults.

Jesús Torres, coordinator of film activities at Colegio Civil Centro Cultural Universitario, said that the selection corresponds to the intention of extending cultural activities during the summer.

The reason for the selection was to continue celebrating summer from our cinema. As you can see, the films are connected to this time of year.”

He also noted that once the Autonomous University of Nuevo Leon incorporated film cycles as part of the Comprehensive Training Activities (AFI), the Cinema Fósforo hall looks increasingly crowded with students, including from the high school level.

“The performances are always on Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m. and we have an audience that has been coming for years, and more and more students accompanied by their parents attend because of the AFI theme, but they stay when they see that the room is safe, comfortable and has good programming,” said Torres.

Brief synopsis of the cycle selection

• Kikujiro

• Masao is a 6-year-old boy who is sent to spend the summer with his grandmother. Bored with all his friends gone, he decides to go in search of his mother, whom he has never seen. One of his grandmother’s neighbors suggests that her husband Kikujiro (Takeshi Kitano), a reformed former yakuza, accompany her. He turns out to be questionable company for Masao.

• From the director of “Superbad” comes a coming-of-age comedy with big dreams, hilarious consequences and young love at an amusement park.

• Psychotropic morning

• A group of young people from Querétaro sell acid, tachas and hallucinogenic mushrooms to finance a trip to the beach. While this happens, between psychotropics, ambushes and excursions to nature, the bond that unites them strengthens and they discover a deeper meaning of friendship.

kitchen

• Camille, an introverted teenager from Long Island, suddenly has her life changed when she meets a group of girls who skate in New York called Skate Kitchen. As she becomes more immersed in this New York subculture, she begins to understand the value of friendship and to get to know herself.
