Cities and migrations in Latin America: individual journeys and urban transformations

Study day organized by Ined and Migrinter

This day is part of the Latin America group of INED and the discussions conducted within UR 12 “Mobility, paths and territories” on urban dynamics. It will involve, with regard to a multidisciplinary approach articulating anthropology, demography, geography, sociology, shedding light on the modalities of integration and agency of migrants (emigrants/immigrants) in several Latin American cities and the urban changes that result from them. The ambition is in particular to discuss the modalities of articulation of individual data on geographical trajectories with aggregated census data that shed light on the transformation of places, to advance in the understanding of the contribution of migrations to urban change in Latin American cities.

The day will be structured on the one hand on the presentation of results of ongoing research, and on the other hand on a methodological discussion on the complementarity of different survey methods, qualitative and quantitative. A video presentation will take place in the afternoon.
