CiTIQUE-TRACKER: Visualizing Tick Bite Reports and Pathogen Transmission – Inrae’s Comprehensive Resource for Ecology of Ticks

2023-07-24 12:10:38

With the aim of better understanding the ecology of ticks and the pathogens they can transmit (boxed below), as well as improving preventionInrae has launched CiTIQUE-TRACKER: the website https://ci-tique-tracker.sk8.inrae.fr/ allows you to visualize tick bite report data from the CiTIQUE participatory research program, launched in 2017.

All citizens (general public, doctors, researchers, regional health agencies, communities, associations, etc.) can contribute, by reporting tick bites – on humans or animals, everywhere in France – or by sending the tick to researchers.

The home page (fig. 1) of the site opens on counters: number of reports of bites in humans and animals, number of letters containing at least one tick received in the laboratory, breakdown by region. The data show a strong variability according to the geographical areas: the most affected regions are the Grand-Est, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté and Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, while Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur is the most spared. Four tabs provide real-time access to the data collected: “environment at the time of the bite”, “activity at the time of the bite”, “age at the time of the bite”, “date of the bite”.
