The city tree has increased in importance in recent years. It not only improves the air, but also cools down when the city constantly heats up in summer in times of climate change. The Vienna City Gardens alone are responsible for the care of around 500,000 city trees that are located on streets, squares and parks. Thousands more are in the private sector or are under the care of Wiener Wohnen.
