The Iranian embassy in Madrid has denied that Cristiano Ronaldo could face 99 lashes if he enters Iran in the future. Iranian media such as Sharq Emroz and Rouydad24 had previously reported this.
According to the embassy’s statement, there is “no court ruling” against the Portuguese. Rather, it is pointed out “that Cristiano Ronaldo traveled to Iran on September 18th and 19th to play an official football match.” He received a “warm” welcome.
Ronaldo was in the Iranian capital Tehran with his club Al-Nassr in September to face Persepolis in the Asian Champions League.
Before the game, the Portuguese met with the painter Fatima Hamami, who gave him a CR7 painting. At this meeting, requested by Hamami, Ronaldo hugged the physically disabled woman as a thank you.
A video of the meeting circulated on social media. According to the report, numerous Iranian lawyers have now filed complaints about this action, as touching a woman is against Iranian law if it is not one’s own wife.

However, the embassy stated: “His sincere and humane encounter with Fatemeh Hamami was also praised and admired by both the population and the country’s sports authorities.”
