A lawsuit opened by two women, at the end of 2022, due to the numerous cases of persecution involving AirTags has been gaining more and more traction in the United States after 36 people joined the case with similar complaints. These individuals accuse the Apple of neglecting the potential that your accessory has to be used in crimes.

Most of these people, according to Ars Technica, lives in the USA, while two live in Canada and one in Ireland. According to the information, since the process was opened, 19 cases of stalking involving AirTags were only registered in one metropolitan region of the country (Tulsa, Oklahoma). Furthermore, since April last year, American police have registered more than 150 cases of persecution with mention of the Apple tracker.

What separates the AirTag from any competing product is its unparalleled accuracy, ease of use (it fits seamlessly into Apple’s existing product suite), and affordable price. Priced at just $29, it has become the weapon of choice for stalkers and abusers.

According to the text of the process, AirTag has even been involved in cases with more tragic outcomes, such as murders. American LaPrecia Sanders, resident of the state of Indiana, for example, said she lost her son after his girlfriend followed him with the help of an Apple tracker to a bar. Once there, she ran him over with her car, killing him instantly.

Most reports, however, continue to cite cases of stalking, whether coming from abusive partners or strangers with unknown motivations. The AirTag is often hidden by criminals in their victims’ cars, their homes and even in more trivial objects such as children’s stuffed animals.

The process was presented to the US District Court no Northern District of California and asks for compensation for victims, although no amount has been revealed. According to the lawsuit, Apple has not done enough to mitigate the damage or prevent the AirTag from being used in crimes like these.

Apple has not yet commented publicly on the case and has until the day 27/10 to file a response with the court.
