Posters in the municipality of Aalter, in East Flanders, have caused confusion among residents and tourists. On these, this indication: “Do not throw dog waste in the trash”.

As relayed by our colleagues from HLN, on Facebook, residents reacted, quite amazed: “What do we do then? Do we eat them?”
Finally, the municipality provided some clarifications, via the alderman of Public Cleanliness Dirk De Smul: “We wanted to invite dog owners to always put their droppings in a bag before throwing them in a public bin, otherwise our municipal workers have to systematically clean them, an obviously painful task. It is therefore always authorized to throw them in a trash can but in a bag. We will correct the posters”.
