The Hubble Space Telescope captured the clearest image yet of a distant galaxy similar to the Milky Way, while searching for evidence of a supernova, according to the Space Journal.
The region, which was photographed by the Hubble Space Telescope, came under the spotlight about three years ago, when astronomers witnessed the violent death of one of its massive stars, a few days after it ran out of energy and exploded in a supernova. The new image shows the distant galaxy UGC 678, located at a distance of 260 million light-years from Earth, in the constellation of Pisces.
