“Three of the four protesters were escorted out of the stadium without incident. The fourth protester fixed his bare feet on the ground. As such, NYPD and medical personnel were required to safely remove the individual from the stadium.” , the tournament organizers said in a statement.

The four people were initially taken into custody by the NYPD.

According to the organizer, a total of 49 minutes elapsed before the match could be resumed.

Coco Gauff and Karolina Muchova retreated to the catacombs of Arthur Ashe Stadium during the events.

Gauff expected protests in the final

“The crazy thing is that this morning I said to myself, ‘I bet there’s going to be a climate change protest in the final.’ I didn’t think it would be in the semifinals,” Gauff told ESPN.

She “told the referee immediately that it was a protest. Karolina asked me how I knew it was a protest. I replied: ‘I don’t know. Something told me this morning’,” said the 19 -year-olds.

However, Gauff did not let himself be thrown out of rhythm, the sixth in the world rankings won the match 6: 4, 7: 5 and is thus in the final of the US Open for the first time in her young career.
