The president of the Greens attacks the right
The party organized its assembly of delegates this Saturday in Geneva. Balthasar Glättli gave a speech to mark the start of this federal election year.
It is no longer possible to procrastinate in the face of climate change. This is the message delivered Saturday, in Geneva, during the assembly of delegates of the Swiss Greens, by the president of the ecological formation Balthasar Glättli in this year of federal elections.
“Our house is burning and it is no longer time to cry fire. It’s time to put out the fire,” said Balthasar Glättli. According to him, solutions exist. We must save energy, get out of fossil fuels and build solar energy. The challenge today is to find political majorities around these issues.
To help, the Zurich national councilor expressed his hope that the Green party will come out of the elections stronger. “So that we can end right-wing stonewalling, build bridges, create climate alliances, promote solutions.”
“The biggest mistake of the right, especially the SVP, is to believe that by doing nothing about the climate crisis, that by continuing to do as before, everything will remain as before”
Planetary boundaries
Even if compromises seem inevitable, the Greens must not lose sight of their objective which is to build “a just and happy society within planetary limits”, insisted Balthasar Glättli. In his view, too many people are afraid of transforming Switzerland. But doing nothing could be costly.
“The biggest mistake of the right, especially the SVP, is to believe that by doing nothing about the climate crisis, that by continuing to do as before, everything will remain as before”. A behavior that he describes as an error. “If everything stays as it is, nothing will stay as it is”.
