Campers at the wildlife reserve in Kgalagadi, Botswana, had a closer-than-expected wildlife encounter following a massive lion approached the camp and even searched the table for food.
“The lions arrive at the camps without warning and in total silenceas it happened to us,” said one of the witnesses.
In video it starts with the predator walking around the perimeter of the camp like a scene from the horror movie. After seemingly wandering into the undergrowth, the big cat turns and approaches the family, who whisper to each other not to move.
At one point in the encounter the cat accidentally knocks a bottle off the table and causes it to slam on the floor, apparently breaking its perception as a stealthy hunter. The clip ends with the lion throwing a chilling look before disappear in nature.
It might have seemed prudent to try to flee the scene before the big cat, however, one of the campers told Storyful that they had agreed before the trip that if they had that meeting that in a situation like this they would not run away: “If someone panics and runs or makes sudden movements, there is a good chance that they might be attacked,” said the witness.
