Club Brugge-PAOK 1-0: Toumba passes the qualification for the Thessalonians [δείτε γκολ και φάσεις] 2024-04-13 14:37:34

The North Double will have the opportunity to get the revenge and the qualification to the next game will be held on Thursday 4/18.

Dominik Kotarski, who saved Igor Thiago’s penalty in the 78th minute, played a very important role in this, while also making other important interventions. The Croatian goalkeeper was only beaten by Hugo Fetlesen’s spot-kick in just the 6th minute, with the Thessalonians unable to find solutions up front.

The “black and white”, however, threatened first, only in the 2nd minute, but Buana Ali Samata’s header after Tyson’s foul did not find the target. However, with six minutes to go, the Belgians opened the scoring. An excellent team effort resulted in Feran Zutgla’s pass to Fetlesen who made it 1-0 with a spot kick from the penalty spot. Wanting to take advantage of the momentum, the home team pressed and in the 10th minute Igor Thiago did not have time to make the projection in front of an empty net.

The rest of the first part was a recital of mistakes and fouls by the two teams who could not get threatening in front of the two goals. A more important moment was Tiago’s out-of-phase hit – fatal for Club Brugge – on Konstantinos Koulierakis, with the 22-year-old Brazilian completing cards and losing the replay in Thessaloniki.

At the start of the second half, it seemed that both teams were finding more open spaces. However, Andrija Živković’s turn was not the best in the 51st minute, nor was Michal Skoras’ right-footed cross found the target in the next minute. In the 57th minute, after a disturbance in PAOK’s defense, Kotarski performed a life-saving intervention low in Zutgla’s near post.

Club Brugge upped the ante, with Skoras in the 64th minute making a superb effort inside the area and Abdul Rahman Baba making a last-minute clearance before the ball crossed the line. Nicky Hayen passed Antonio Nousa in the match, with the 18-year-old winger creating cracks on the right side of PAOK. From one such, in the 76th minute, Rafael Onientika managed to “nip” the ball in front of Kotarski, who overthrew him.

The Croatian goalkeeper, however, saved Thiago’s execution with his feet, keeping the score 1-0. Another positive element for PAOK shortly before the final, the yellow cards received by Maxime de Kuyper and Brandon Mechele who also completed cards. Razvan Lucescu’s team did not create a classic chance, but the dream of participating in the top four is alive.

The rematch is scheduled for Thursday 18/4 at Toumba’s stadium (22:00). It is reminded that whichever of the two teams gets the qualification, will face in the semi-finals the winner of the pair Viktoria Plzeň – Fiorentina that emerged as a goalless draw earlier in the Czech Republic.
