CNE will bid for key transmission works for Itata – La Discusión 2024-02-22 12:16:38

Two key works for the energy development of the Province of Itata will be put out to tender in the short term by the National Energy Commission (CNE), according to the Seremi of Energy of Ñuble, Dennis Rivas Oviedo. These are the new Las Delicias sectioning substation and the new Coiquén substation, as well as the Las Delicias-Coiquén line, which together will represent an investment of US$29.7 million.

Both projects are part of the CNE 2021 Transmission Expansion Plan and are in decree No. 650/2022 of the Ministry of Energy, published on January 5, 2023, which sets the deadline for their start-up in January 2027.

These initiatives seek to respond to the increase in demand expected for the Province of Itata, an area highly vulnerable to supply interruptions, in which large-scale generation projects will be developed.

The aim is to increase the energy supply in the Province, to make the development of generation projects from photovoltaic and wind sources feasible; and enable an energy security ring in Ñuble, which ensures continuity of supply.

The S/E Las Delicias consists of the construction of a new sectioning substation, through the sectioning of the “2×220 kV Dichato- Nueva Cauquenes Line”. It is waiting to begin the international bidding process, with an investment amount of US$16.4 million.

Meanwhile, S/E Coiquén considers 66 kV and 23 kV yards. Additionally, it contemplates the construction of the 2×66 kV Las Delicias-Coiquén line, a new 66 kV double circuit transmission line and, at least, 46 MVA of transmission capacity per circuit at 35°C with Sol, between the S/E Coiquén and S/E Las Delicias. The investment amount for this work, which is also waiting to start bidding, reaches US$13.3 million.

Towards energy slack

Rivas highlighted the importance of these advances and highlighted that the new infrastructure “will enable a new supply point in the transmission area to the Province of Itata with projections of providing energy support for the entire Region.”

He added that “these works respond to the needs of the community and the productive sector, taking care of current demands and projecting them into the long term, with the aim of generating energy slack throughout the area.”

Along these lines, the Presidential delegate of Itata, Lisette Prado Stuardo, maintained that “the implementation of initiatives of this magnitude not only drives significant growth in the economic and social sectors, but also projects a horizon of sustainable development.”
