So far, only companies from the energy sector, industrial groups and airlines have paid for greenhouse gas emissions in Germany. Since the carbon price has been set uniformly since 2021, manufacturers and suppliers of goods and services have to pay a fixed price per tonne of carbon dioxide. If these additional costs are passed on to buyers, goods and services that are harmful to the climate would become more expensive. In other words, everyone who emits carbon dioxide pays this tax.
