Manager Eric ten Haag has said he will not appeal Manchester United’s three match suspension for sending off Saturday’s match against Crystal Palace.

Brazilian midfielder Casemiro was sent off by referee Andre Marriner in the 70th minute of a match against Palace.

Players from both teams converged on the touchline after Jeffrey Schluff fouled Anthony. After a pitchside VAR check, Mariner determined that Casemiro had behaved violently towards Palace midfielder Will Hughes.

So after Casemiro’s sending off, Schluff scored a consolation goal, but United finished the match victorious. Casemiro will miss this week’s home-and-away Premier League fixture against Leeds United and away to Leicester City on Sunday, 19 February.

This suspension does not affect his participation in the first leg of the Europa League playoffs in Barcelona next Thursday (February 16).

In a pre-match press conference on Tuesday ahead of a home game against Leeds United at Old Trafford, manager Ten Haag was asked if the club had thought about overturning the suspension.

“I was considering it.”

Director Ten Haag conceded before explaining why the appeal had not been initiated.

“I don’t think it was the right decision to send Casemiro out, but I thought there was no hope of salvation through an appeals process.”

With the injured Christian Eriksen, Scott McTominay and Donny van de Beek missing, it could be a match for Marcel Savitzer to make his United starting debut.

The Austrian Sabitzer came on as a substitute for the last 20 minutes of the match against Palace. His game intelligence and calm ball-management skills were recognized by Ten Haag.

Manchester United’s Anthony Martial is still out with an injury. Anthony can’t play in this game either.

Ten Haag expressed his belief in the team’s strength, saying that the missing players will not have much impact on the upcoming match.

“I am the director. You should always play against players who are available. We have a squad. There are many good players. They won’t always start, but other players will get a chance.”

“After the game, you can’t say there’s no Casemiro and you can’t say there’s no Martial. We have to win.”

“They are all players belonging to Manchester United. Whoever comes into the game, we have to win.”
