Coach Xavi has expressed his disappointment with Barcelona star Ousmane Dembele’s decision to join French giants PSG. There were reports that Dembele was parting ways with the Blaugrana citing that Barça could not match PSG’s offer.
Xavi said that they cannot compete with the offer made by PSG and is disappointed with Dembele’s decision. Dembele was not in the squad for the pre-season friendly against AC Milan. Xavi shared these things while talking to the media after the match. Barca Center quoted Xavi and reported this.
‘Dembele told us that he has received a proposal from PSG and that he is leaving Barcelona. He didn’t play in today’s match because he had to leave. That is cheating. I am disappointed at the club’s decision to leave despite treating him well. We cannot compete with PSG’s offer,’ Xavi said.
The French giants made a smart move to acquire the star. Dembele’s release clause is 50 million. But the contract for this release clause was to expire on July 30. So PSG’s aim was to submit a bid for Dembele on the last day of the release clause.
This is a big setback for Barcelona. In 2017, Barca acquired the player from the German club Borussia Dortmund. Dembele is acquired by Barca as a replacement for Neymar.
