Coast Guard intercepts raft headed for Florida

The United States Coast Guard (USCG) intercepted this Friday a raft with a group of Cubans that was heading to the Florida Keys and prevented its illegal landing.

At least four Cubans were traveling on the rustic raft stopped by a crew from the Miami Beach station who were taken to the US vessel this Friday morning.

Almost daily the USCG reports on the arrests of Cuban rafters who see their dramatic journey to reach US soil frustrated; while the authorities warn that the sea crossing can be deadly and tries to discourage rafters from arriving through illegal routes.

On Thursday night, US border authorities intercepted 20 immigrants south of Key Largooff the coast of Florida, in an operation carried out by agents of the Air and Marine Operations (AMO) patrol, who tracked and located “an overloaded vessel” with the help of Coast Guard maritime crews.

This same Friday, coast guard crews detained a large number of rafters after disembarking in the Florida Keys.

In total, they reached the shores of the United States 47 migrants They were traveling aboard a motorboat.

Since the start of the new fiscal year, on October 1, 2022, more than 3,724 rafters have been intercepted at sea, more than half of the total of the entire previous fiscal year, when 6,182 were reported.

A large number of Cubans seeking to reach US territory by this route remain unaccounted for and their anguished relatives demand any information.
