Will Coca-Cola become a luxury product? Against the backdrop of inflation which continues to weigh on many products and production costs, the CEO of the Coca-Cola Europacific Partners (CCEP) France group, François Gay-Bellile, announces in the columns of Parisian ask distributors for a 7% increase on different products (Fanta, Sprite, Coca-Cola, etc.). The time has indeed come for negotiations between distributors and manufacturers, and the Coca-Cola group seems to be in a strong position.

The company, which is doing “rather well”, according to François Gay-Bellile, therefore sent its gross prices on Monday November 6 “on average up 7%”. However, this figure is still part of the negotiations and may change, especially as it will not necessarily affect all of the group’s brands. It also depends on the margins that mass distribution players decide to make on the products. They can range from 10% to 50%.

Coca in a position of strength

In any case, Coca-Cola is in a strong position. It’s difficult for a supermarket not to distribute this soda so coveted by the French, even during the inflation crisis. “Our turnover is +12.5%,” explains the CEO of the France branch. Our sodas have taken some market share, including alcoholic drinks. And then we recruited many small consumers, because in this period of inflation and anxiety-provoking news, so-called “pleasure” products, including Coca-Cola, survived the crisis. »

Indeed, “to date, there are two essential items on the shelves, Nutella and Coca-Cola,” confirms in another article from Parisian the specialist in mass distribution, Philippe Goetzmann. Intermarché thus suffered in 2020 from the anger of Coca-Cola which suspended its deliveries to supermarkets after a disagreement over the number of products distributed by CCEP.
