Colombia assures that it does not close the diplomatic channel with Venezuela

Luis Gilberto Murillo, Foreign Minister of Colombia, said that diplomatic ties between his country and Venezuela remain open despite showing a different position from Miraflores regarding the candidates for the presidential elections.

In an interview with the Colombian media The Time, Murillo said that his country has respected Venezuelan sovereignty and autonomyso he will always be willing to help in solving political conflicts.

“On April 25 of last year, Colombia led a conference on Venezuela that managed to reactivate the international community to express the need for sanctions on Venezuela to be lifted and for a fair and competitive electoral process to be carried out,” he remembered.

This week, Colombia was one of the many countries that spoke out about the impediments against Corina Yorischosen by María Corina Machado, in her registration at presidential elections of July 28.

For the administration of Gustavo Petro, the north is to comply with the Barbados agreementhighlighting “the need for a free, fair and competitive presidential electoral process.”

“Colombia joins the calls of the international community on the need to prioritize the current presidential electoral political process as a democratic mechanism for decision-making”Murillo added.
