The Su-22 bomber is a fighter aircraft originating from Russia, which has been used by the Vietnamese Air Force to patrol the Truong Sa archipelago and the southern continental shelf since 1988. The aircraft has special features with high efficiency. Wing flap technology allows rapid acceleration. Currently, the 921st regiment is equipped with 3 main types of aircraft: Su-22M, Su-22M3 and Su-22M4.

According to the Military News, at 12:09 on January 31, the Su-22 aircraft, number 5873 of the 921st Airborne Regiment, Division 371, Air Defense – Air Force, led by 3rd level pilot Captain Tran Ngoc Duy The pilot took off the first flight, training flight number 206.
At 12:27, during landing, the plane crashed, the pilot was ordered to parachute but Captain Duy tried to save the plane, then the plane crashed and the pilot died.
