Colruyt Distribution Centers Blockage: Impact on Goods Delivery and Store Availability

The Colruyt distribution centers in Ghislenghien and Ollignies, in Hainaut, were still blocked by farmers on Wednesday. The distribution of goods to the chain’s stores is disrupted.

“Since Tuesday 6:00 p.m., farmers have been blocking access to our distribution centers in Ollignies and Ghislenghien. It is from these distribution centers that dry foodstuffs, water and drinks leave for our stores in Belgium,” the group said in a press release on Wednesday. “The activists do not allow trucks to enter or leave the site” but the stock of these products “is currently sufficient in our stores”.

Staff scheduled to work overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday were unable to work. “Our priority on Tuesday evening was to prepare as much as possible for the coming days and as much merchandise as possible with the remaining team. This way, everything is ready so that we can deliver to our stores as soon as the sites are accessible once more. »

However, those responsible for the channel have “no idea of the duration of these actions. We are receiving different signals on this and therefore the situation remains very unpredictable.”

Transport of goods is currently possible from the distribution center in Halle, from which the stores were supplied with fresh products. Deliveries are nevertheless experiencing delays because trucks are experiencing blockages on the highways.

It is therefore “inevitable that products will be missing in some stores” at some point, the group concluded. The latter does not venture into more precise forecasts, as stocks differ between stores.
