Combatting Antibiotic Resistance with Phage Therapy: Rime Bioinformatics at Generation Impact Festival

Every year, I go to the Generation Impact Festival, an event which brings together young, committed entrepreneurs, aged 18 to 25. There I cross paths with Antoine, 25 years old, employee at Rime Bioinformatics, a company that seeks alternative solutions to antibiotics. It is in fact thanks to phage therapy that Rime Bioinformatics hopes to combat antibiotic resistance.

“Antibiotics are our primary means of combating bacterial infections, whether in human, animal or agronomic health. Their benefits are not limited to saving patients: the indirect protection they provide to agricultural operations preserves farmers’ income and the food security of the communities that depend on them,” emphasizes Antoine.

“Bacterial resistance to antibiotics, however, is pushing them towards decline. Bacteriophages (or phages) are bacteria-killing viruses, discovered at the beginning of the 20th century. They can be used to control bacteria in many areas: human health, food safety, agriculture, livestock, cosmetics. This is phage therapy. They constitute an effective and more environmentally friendly alternative to antibiotics,” explains Rime Bioinformatics.

Antoine is very happy to work in this way to improve scientific knowledge on alternative solutions to antibiotics. “We study the DNA of bacteriophages. It’s extremely exciting to watch. »
