The College of Bioanalysts in the state of Bolívar spoke out against cases of intrusion, a fact that occurs throughout the national territory and the south of Venezuela is no exception.
Heriberto Arteaga, president of the regional College of Bioanalysts, highlights that they have a practice law that dates back 50 years and a code of ethics that has been maintained for the same amount of time, both laws direct the guidelines of the professional.
He clarifies that it is not enough to have a degree from an authorized university to train graduates and practice, the accreditation must be registered with the Ministry of Health and become a member “if this is not complied with, the law is being violated.”
South of the state
Another of the most alarming cases are those people outside the profession who profitably carry out tests for dengue, malaria, drugs, and HIV with rapid test reagents in the mining areas of the region.
“They think that being a bioanalyst means buying a box of tests, going to a place and selling it,” he questions.
He warns that rapid tests only represent 30% of the activity, the other 70% is the analysis of the samples, “knowledge acquired over years at the university to obtain the degree.”
There are 1,400 registered professionals, but among the retired, deceased and migrants, currently the active number is around 400 graduates throughout the state.
He warns that work intrusion is also committed by other professionals such as nurses and doctors, in the latter case he refuses to allow patients to undergo covid-19 tests in consultation (for $30).
“That is not the responsibility of a doctor,” Arteaga denounces.
Discard the idea that having a laboratory is lucrative, it does not work that way, “we work with people, we must protect the patient by giving a quality analysis,” emphasizes the representative of the bioanalysts in Bolívar.
As a result of intrusion, there is unfair competition between laboratories with hematology for two dollars, when the minimum cost in more impoverished areas is $4.
The patient looks for the economy, but Arteaga says that in health it is dangerous “it is about life and we do not know what results they are giving.”
