Everything sniffles. And sniffles. “I’m sick” is the most frequently heard sentence these days. And so there is also a rush at family doctor Matthias Hartig. But: Telephone sick leave is rarely used.

Nachrodt-Wiblingwerde – According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the wave of RSV-related respiratory diseases has started in Germany. RSV stands for respiratory syncytial virus. It is a worldwide pathogen causing acute upper and lower respiratory tract illnesses similar to the influenza known as influenza. And then Corona is also the trigger for many infections. But family doctor Matthias Hartig can hardly tell who has something, because the symptoms are the same in almost all cases: cough, runny nose, fever, fatigue, sore throat, headache, body aches. The severity of the illness says nothing about whether you have been infected with the flu (which is now on the rise), a cold or Covid-19. Only a test can give you certainty.

    “Patients test themselves at home”

Matthias Hartig’s practice no longer tests for corona infection, “but some patients test themselves at home,” the family doctor tells the editorial team and adds: “Many people are sick right now, but there are only a few complications .” And the family doctor discovered something else: those who get it are usually sick for more than a week.
Since December 7th, it has been possible again to receive a sick note from your doctor over the phone. However, this only applies to patients known to the practice and for illnesses without severe symptoms. This option is only used by a few patients in Nachrodt: “Most patients would like to be examined. And that’s better, because sometimes you end up picking out someone who has something different,” says Matthias Hartig. By the way, anyone who “rattles” doesn’t come during normal office hours, but gets a later appointment. Then Matthias Hartig also generally works with mask protection, which he also recommends to those who go shopping or on the bus and train.

    Double vaccination?

In order to get through the Christmas season well, Health Minister Lauterbach believes it is now time to have vaccinations refreshed. “If you want to avoid getting sick under the Christmas tree as much as possible, you should get vaccinated quickly in the next few days,” said the SPD politician. He recommends double vaccination – against flu and corona. Meanwhile, family doctor Matthias Hartig considers the simultaneous vaccination to be too much stress for the body and recommends an interval of 14 days.
