Every day around the world, one million people contract sexually transmitted diseases – a major public health problem.

Sexually transmitted diseases continue to be a major public health problem. According to figures from the World Health Organization, one million people a day are infected with an STD. This is why the prevention of these infections is a priority for the health and well-being of the population.

In Luxembourg last year, nearlya quarter more sexually transmitted diseases than the previous year. The number of STIs reported in Luxembourg has increased by 1,755 in 2021 to 2,171 in 2022, an increase of 23.7%. What is particularly striking is the rise in Chlamydia infections.

Every year before the summer, the Ministry of Health launches a communication campaign to raise awareness among the population, especially young people, regarding protection once morest sexually transmitted infections. The slogan of this year’s campaign “Protection is good for us”, highlights the need for protection once morest STDs. From May 8, messages will be shared on social networks, but actions will also be organized to remind people of the importance of screening and the use of condoms.
