Combatting Vitamin D Deficiency in Winter: Tips from St. Petersburg Endocrinologist

In winter, the body of St. Petersburg residents especially suffers from a lack of vitamin D. Learn how to get it without the sun. TV channel “St. Petersburg” said an endocrinologist, nutritionist Ph.D. Nadezhda Fetisova.

According to the doctor, the daily requirement for an adult is 600 international units.

“Neither the summer sun, nor the winter sun, nor modern food, unfortunately, covers our needs. Modern man often eats very poor food. If we eat well, eat eggs, meat, liver, we will receive at least some portion of vitamin D,” Fetisova shared.

A high dose of the vitamin is found in caviar, salmon, cheese and, surprisingly, mushrooms.

“We must remember that vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin. Therefore, fats in food improve the absorption of vitamin D. Very often, people who adhere to a healthy diet begin to exclude fats from their diet: they buy lean meats and fish, and exclude any oils. This is wrong,” the doctor noted.

Previously, the St. Petersburg Diary wrote why people work worse in the fall.
