Lewis has played opposite Jamie Lee Curtis in the series “Anything but Love” and is also known for the role of Prince John in the film “Robin Hood: Men in Tights”. He is probably best known for the role of a semi-fictional version of himself in the television series “Curb your enthusiasm” on HBO.

Lewis began his career on the comedy show The Tonight Show in the 70s. The comedian was known for his dark humor, self-deprecation and also for his openness regarding his struggles with alcoholism and drug addiction.

Lewis died of a heart attack at his home in Los Angeles on Tuesday night, his publicist Jeff Abraham confirmed to Deadline.

“His wife, Joyce Lapinsky, thanks everyone for all the love, friendship and support and asks for privacy at this time” says Abraham according to Deadline.

Lewis was suffering from Parkinson’s disease, which he revealed last April.

Richard Lewis was 76 years old.
