In commemoration of “International Women’s Day 2023” and as a gesture of recognition of the hard work that Mexican teachers carry out every day in the classroom and in their homes, the Union of Teachers at the Service of the State of Mexico (SMSEM) organized a concert in which 10,000 teachers affiliated with the organization participated.

The event was led by the General Secretary of the SMSEM, Marco Aurelio Carbajal Leyva, who was accompanied by the Secretary of Education, Gerardo Monroy Serrano.

During her speech, Carbajal recalled the importance of “building societies in which women, with their extraordinary power, transform paradigms with confidence and courage, women who transcend and continue to be a vital part of our union life.”

The Union of Teachers at the Service of the State of Mexico has more than 110,000 members, and the fundamental role played by women within the organization is remarkable, since they represent more than 70 percent of the union.

Gerardo Monroy affirmed that “on this day the life stories of strong, determined and powerful women are commemorated, such as the women of the State Educational Subsystem”.

The concert took place in the National Auditorium, one of the most important venues in the country, and included the participation of the famous singer Yuri, one of the main exponents of music in Spanish. For more than two hours, Yuri performed her most famous hits, such as “My friend”, “When the tide goes down” and “Behind my window”, while the Mexican teachers sang and enjoyed the show.

With more than 34 years of experience in the world of music, Yuri thanked the Mexican teachers for their daily work in building a better society, and for their contribution to the education and training of future generations.
