“In honor of Dr. René Favaloro, born on July 12, 1923, today we commemorate a new National Day of Social Medicine. I thank the professionals who work daily for the health and well-being of our community,” the mayor of Esteban Echeverría, Fernando Gray, wrote on his Twitter account.

René Gerónimo Favaloro was an eminent Argentine physician and inventor, educator and heart surgeon, recognized worldwide for having developed the coronary bypass using the great saphenous vein that has saved so many lives worldwide.

On the other hand, the mayor commented “On July 12, 1780, one of the great heroines of Latin American independence was born. Commander of troops in the vanguard of the patriotic forces, Juana Azurduy fought for freedom, justice and equality, and fought for brotherhood among the peoples of the South”.
