The commemoration of the 54th anniversary of the recovery of Sidi Ifni is an opportunity to evoke the stages of a memorable epic and the sacrifices made by the Moroccan people for freedom and independence, said the High Commissioner for Former Resistance fighters and former member of the liberation army, Mustafa El Ktiri.
Mr. El Ktiri, who was speaking at a meeting organized Friday in Sidi Ifni, underlined that this anniversary allows to evoke the deep meanings of the fights carried out by the tribes of Ait Baamrane and Sidi Ifni, who wrote luminous pages in the register of the national struggle for the freedom and independence of Morocco and the defense of its religious and national constants.
He recalled, on this occasion, the effective involvement of the Ait Baamrane tribes in the victorious launch of the activities of the liberation army in the southern provinces of the Kingdom in 1956 for the completion of independence and the liberation of the Sahara from foreign occupation, as well as their contribution to the uprising of November 23, 1957 against the Spanish colonial presence.
For Mr. El Ktiri, the recovery of the cities of Tarfaya and Sidi Ifni was the trigger for the liberation campaign, which made the return of the southern regions the first priority, adding that “Morocco, 65 years after the speech by M’hamid Ghizlan and the return of the city of Tarfaya to the homeland, 54 years after the recovery of the city of Sidi Ifni and 47 years after the launch of the Green March, is reaping the fruits of a a wise and forward-looking policy”.
For his part, the governor of the province of Sidi Ifni, Hassan Sidki, indicated that the 54th anniversary of the recovery of Sidi Ifni is an important milestone in the register of the epics of the struggles against the foreign presence in Morocco and for freedom, the independence and unity.
He added that “it is not a question of evoking the events of a past history, but rather an opportunity to teach the rising generations the fights led by the tribes of this region and the sacrifices made by the resistance fighters for the defense of the sacred values of the Nation”.
On this occasion, a group of former resistance fighters and former members of the liberation army of the region were honored in recognition of the great sacrifices they made for the liberation of their country from colonialism.
Financial aid was also distributed to former resistance fighters and their widows, at a total cost of 158,000 dirhams.
Mr. El Ktiri then visited the Space of the historical memory of the resistance and the liberation in Sidi Ifni.
