After warning strikes and rallies by the union, the sixth round of negotiations is now expected to bring regarding the breakthrough for a new collective agreement for commercial employees. The negotiations start on Friday at 3 p.m. in the Austrian Chamber of Commerce in Vienna. According to observers, the talks might last until late in the evening. The Handels-KV is regarding the salaries of 430,000 employees and apprentices.
In the fifth round of the KV, the employers’ offer and the employees’ demands were still significantly different. The Chamber of Commerce offered an increase in salaries of 8 percent, the GPA union insisted on a salary increase of 9.4 percent. Rolling inflation from October 2022 to September 2023 was 9.2 percent.
