The Commodore 77 is a special edition Cyberpunk 2077 hardware collaboration between Commodore International and CD Projekt Red, transforming the FPGA-powered Commodore 64 Ultimate into a Night City relic. Shipping next year starting at $377, it features an AMD Artix 7 processor, an exclusive Arasaka shard cartridge, and a custom demo built by the Polish demogroup Arise.

Underneath the heavily branded exterior inspired by the fictional Seocho Electronics manufacturer from Cyberpunk 2077, the Commodore 77 is built on modern programmable silicon. Rather than relying on software emulation, the machine utilizes an upgraded AMD Xilinx Artix-7 XC7A100T FPGA.
That clock speed represents a massive computational leap over the original 1982 MOS Technology 6510 processor, which ticked along at roughly 1MHz. The machine includes 128MB of DDR2 memory and eight FPGA SID chips capable of producing 24 audio channels. It also retains dual physical sockets for original 6581 or 8580 SID chips, bridging four decades of chiptune engineering.
Compatibility remains a core engineering focus for the platform. The underlying C64 Ultimate architecture maintains over 99.9% compatibility with legacy C64 software and hardware peripherals. Users can plug in original disk drives, printers, joysticks via DB-9 ports, and cartridges, while modernizing connectivity through HDMI, USB, Ethernet, and Wi-Fi.
An Exclusive Demoscene Crossover for Night City
The centerpiece of the hardware release is an original, non-interactive 8-bit demo that expands the lore of the Cyberpunk universe. As detailed by Time Extension, the software was developed by the long-running Polish C64 demo group Arise and is delivered on an exclusive Arasaka-themed “shard” cartridge. The demo features 24-channel stereo SID chiptune music composed by LukHash.
Christian Simpson, head of Commodore, noted the thematic alignment between the retro computing community and the dystopian themes of the game. “In a world dominated by corporate surveillance, algorithmic feeds, and private security, the safest tech is sometimes the oldest,” Simpson stated, adding that C64 owners have historically built new tools without corporate permission.
Patrick Mills, Franchise Content Strategy Lead at CD Projekt Red, highlighted the tactile nature of the hardware collaboration. “The tech in Cyberpunk 2077 is chunky, tactile, and substantial — meaning that the Commodore 77 can really feel like a device lifted straight out of the game world and onto your desktop,” Mills explained.

The Commodore 77 package extends beyond the main computer unit. Buyers receive a spiral-bound user guide containing Cyberpunk 2077-inspired type-in BASIC programs interwoven with lore. This design choice mimics the data shard extraction mechanic from the game while invoking nostalgia for 1980s computer magazine listings.
Additional bundled accessories include exclusive Commodore and Cyberpunk 2077 enamel pins, custom stickers, an extra-long HDMI cable, and a worldwide power adapter marketed as compatible with Night City electrical grids. Pre-orders for the system opened at $377.
