COMMUNIQUE OF THE GOVERNMENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF NIGER

2023-05-03 00:29:32

In a statement made public by a group of people, claiming to belong to a structure with no legal recognition called the “Tillabéri Union Committee for Peace, Security and Social Cohesion”, on the airwaves of certain media, the authors affirm :

“The deployment of foreign forces, particularly French, on the borders of Burkina Faso and Mali from our territory with Chadian mercenaries at their side is done with a view to launching an attack against these two brotherly and friendly countries”.

These allegations cannot be tolerated in the name of freedom of expression or association; nor can they be considered as a civic action that can contribute to the search for peace and security for the populations for which this group claims to act.

The Government formally denies these unfounded accusations, the objective of which is to undermine the credibility and image of our country not only in its relations vis-à-vis its neighbors but also vis-à-vis the international community.

Niger is deeply attached to the sovereignty of each State and maintains special ties of brotherhood and solidarity with Mali and Burkina Faso, especially in the current context of our common fight against terrorism.
The Government cannot accept that individuals driven by ulterior motives seek, by means of the crudest lies, to discredit the important efforts of the State in the fight against terrorism and the preservation of the security of the populations and their property.

Finally, the Government would like to point out that the actions of the authors of this declaration, which aims to serve another agenda by sowing disorder and disarray within the population and the Defense and Security Forces, constitute several breaches of the Criminal Law and Ordinance No. 84-06 of March 1, 1984 regulating associations.

Also, he decided to seize Justice in order to initiate proceedings against the authors, co-authors and accomplices of this declaration.
