Since last week, a medical student sector of the National University of Mar del Plata (Unmdp) has been carrying out a series of claimsasking the academic authorities to have a contemplative regime and that they exist more flexible course hourssince they affirm, the race has a great filter which means that very few can get to have a medical degree. This year is special for Medicine: 107 students who this week began their last year of study, will have the opportunity to become doctors.
In statements to 0223, Adrian Alasinodirector of the Superior School of Medicine of the Unmdp, In the first place, he considered that the claims of the students “are always welcome” and that any question “can be considered”, although he admitted that “of 5,200 students, they cannot always conform to 100% of the people”.
“There are things that are difficult, like the request for relaxationbecause obviously there is a study plan, an academic regulation that is a contract signed by students at the beginning of the year. They know the rules of the game,” he noted.

In this framework, he highlighted the fact that in this 2022 “there is three student groups, 2 political-partisans and another with a different profile and who seek the support of the people. They are the rules of the game of public university”, she reasoned.
In relation to the claim for flexibility, Alasino clarified that the School of Medicine has course schedules from Monday to Friday from 8 to 22 and the Saturdays from 8 to 16. “They ask for flexibility but we cannot have more hours. They have the priority of schedules, presenting a Work certificate. If I work in the morning and I have a commission at night, it is given space, ”she said.
And he added: “There are people who do their careers by working, but Medicine has a very large hourly loadwith an average of 30 to 32 hours of coursework per week. And it is estimated that for this, they need between 35 to 40 hours per week to study. Medicine is a long and complex career”, he remarked.
Likewise, the academic manager explained that part of the attended of students is done in health centers, “which work between 8 and 17 or 18 hours”.
“There are issues that are always considered, such as when a student presents a health certificate and is given another chance to study. But exam tables cannot be opened every month. It is impossible. Insist that claims are always valid but you cannot satisfy everyone. We have talked with the students and gave them answers, but out there they are not the ones they wanted to hear. the race has standards that must be met”Alasino concluded.
