Concepts: Phone, Contacts and FaceTime in one app; Improved Standby

O designer Parker Ortolani devised two more interesting concepts for the iOS — both involving features that will hit the system in version 17, which should be officially released next month.

Starting with the most interesting, the first concept presented by him unites the apps Telephone, Contacts e FaceTime into one, ending a bit with the ambiguity that currently exists in Apple’s operating system.

Named Links (Calls), the new app would be divided into four tabs. The main one would take the name of the app itself and would have a list of favorite contacts fixed at the top and a list of recent calls just below.

On the Inbox tab (Inbox), both the audio messages sent by traditional email and the messages sent by FaceTime (a feature that will arrive in iOS 17) would remain — these, in the form of Stories.

The People tab (People) would be intended for displaying contacts, including their respective lists, while the Dial tab (Dial) would be reserved for the dialer, which would include both traditional and FaceTime calls.

The concept is interesting because it follows Apple’s standard for iMessage, which works within the Messages app. The iPhone could have FaceTime as its default calling service and, when it’s not available, make a traditional call.

StandBy improved

The other concept reflects a generous expansion of the mode On hold (StandBy)feature of iOS 17 that will allow the user to view a different screen while the iPhone is being recharged with the screen arranged horizontally.

Ortolani envisioned features like a dot indicator (so the user knows which screen Standby mode is showing), as well as being able to bring up a dock of apps by swiping up from the bottom of the screen (like on iPadOS).

One of the elements of that Dock would be a button to display a list of apps that support Standby — both native and third-party apps. YouTube, for example, could display an adapted interface with a list of videos, among other things.
