After several postponements due to illness, it finally took place: Bernhard Eder’s in-store gig in the Recordbag record store in Vienna’s fifth district!
There were several reasons to make a pilgrimage to Recordbag that early evening: I hadn’t been to this record store in far too long, even though I’ve lived nearby for some time, I had never seen Bernhard Eder live and besides, it was a good opportunity to meet friends and acquaintances. said and done. I then found myself with a dozen other people in the aisles of the record shelves, waiting for the concert to begin. and: it started quickly!
Admittedly, I wasn’t at all familiar with his musical work. I knew that this performance was part of “childlikes” new album “golden days” but otherwise I was very clueless. In any case, Bernhard Eder and his fellow musicians stood in a corner and presented very beautiful, timeless indie pieces with their combination of acoustic guitar and electric guitar. I actually found this combination very appealing – I like reduced instrumentation but also well-used, subtle but also strong electric guitar melodies.
The more the set progressed, the more I asked myself why I had never listened to his musical work before. I enjoyed the melodies, the delicate vocal delivery of the lyrics and this classic character. The whole time I had the feeling that I was listening to songs that were made to last forever, that would still be considered beautiful in 50 years. The highlight of the performance was one in particular for the record store owner Sylvia Benedikter – namely a cover of a David Bowie song. And since Sylvia is a big David Bowie fan, the joy on her face was really contagious.
At some point this little in-store gig came to an end. You still had the opportunity to buy the new record from Bernhard Eder and have it signed directly. In the end I left this wonderful music venue with a lot of happiness: what a beautiful early evening program!
