sold out and intense: “baits” presented their new album and ensured an eventful show!

Motivated, I made a pilgrimage to the small hall of the arena that Friday evening. The album release party for the band “Baits” was on the program – and because I had already experienced a few very good Baits concerts, I didn’t miss this concert opportunity. When I arrived the crowd was still manageable, but when the opening act “atom wombAs the game began to play, the room filled up more and more. By the way, the opening band played mostly instrumental guitar strumming, which felt a bit like floating in space (if you can imagine that). When there was singing, you could hardly hear anything – probably because of the loud guitar strumming but also because the acoustics in the arena’s small hall are perhaps generally not the best. That wasn’t a very good sign, but I pushed it aside for now. Everything would definitely be better with the main band of the evening!

yes, and at some point, very, very late in the evening, the group stormed “baits“ the stage and was bathed in beautiful arena light. I was happy about that because when I see a band live, I want to see them too! But somehow the band was a bit reserved at the beginning – guitarist Christopher in particular didn’t seem fully present. and that was due to being acutely ill, as I later found out. In any case, singer Sonja had a lot to do, because as time went on it became more and more clear that she had to carry the show more or less alone. Don’t get me wrong: the whole band was constantly moving, but it was frontwoman Sonja who provided entertainment in the set.

Sonja shook her hair, Sonja made poses for the audience, Sonja made the announcements. and Sonja jumped into the audience! That was definitely a highlight of the whole show – she danced, a little anxiously, between all the poofing people and performed at the same time. Wow! Then she climbed back on stage for the next songs! And we, we had to continue to “survive” alongside the raging society. The biggest problem with pogen isn’t actually the pogen itself, but that many people handle it far too aggressively. And that was also the case at this concert: the people around were ignored, they were simply pushed away, sometimes even knocked over. I, too, on the outermost edge, often received violent blows. it’s just not funny. Luckily Pogen didn’t fit that song, yikes. A little later, Sonja jumped into the audience again, this time she fell to the ground and performed on her knees with great fervor. When she got up again, she was lifted up by visitors and this action ultimately resulted in the singer performing her song while crowd surfing. I believe that it happened by chance and wasn’t necessarily intentional – in any case, the circle came full circle when she was finally carried to the stage and, so to speak, “parked” there.

In addition to all these crazy and very worth seeing performances, the sound in the small hall was quite a damper. I’m not a sound engineer and I don’t know what the problem was, but front woman Sonja’s voice was always a bit too quiet. and it also mattered where you were standing. I have no idea, was it due to the alignment of the boxes, or even the boxes themselves? or in the settings on the mixer? I have no idea, at least I had heard the “baits” sound better before. Still: if you gave yourself over and danced to jangly punk/grunge music and then every now and then your voice found the right way to your ears, then it was great. I wasn’t necessarily that familiar with the band’s general musical work, but what I heard was memorable! and to this day I still have the scene in my mind when this intense moment from kneeling-to-crowdsurfing-Sonja took place. That was intense and I will remember it forever! oh, and the part with the birthday cake was also remembered: at the end, shortly before the encore part, drummer Fazo was also presented with a birthday cake on stage because it happened to be his birthday that evening. So the room was filled with a lot of love – that’s how it has to be!
