Conductor Stanislavas Domarkas welcomes the 85th anniversary Culture

The maestro is very much looking forward to the opening of the new building of the Musical Theater: “I suggest the audience to look for tickets as soon as possible and admire the special sound of music in the new theater. I’m interested in reading articles about what the new theater will be like, I can’t wait to go in, admire it and enjoy it.”

S. Domarkas worked in various theaters for more than 60 years. “I performed the tasks assigned to me with great responsibility and love. I tried to ensure that the staged performances were attended by the public and brought great joy to people. I am happy that at the age of 85 I can still hold a concert, rehearse with the orchestra, and the musicians of the orchestra are attentive to me and take my comments seriously. I admire the professionalism of the KVMT orchestra not only because it is led by the talented maestro Tomas Ambrozaitis. High-level professionals from various countries play here,” says the maestro.

May 30 6:30 p.m. in the big hall of the new Musical Theater “Jūra” the concert “Vivat, Maestro!” dedicated to S. Domark’s anniversary will be held. At the concert, we will hear the orchestra of the Klaipėda State Musical Theater conducted by the chief conductor Tomas Ambrozaitis, the soloists will sing: Beata Ignatavičiūtė, Judita Butkytė, Rasa Ulteravičiūtė-Kazlauskienė, Rosana Štemanetian, Emilia Janina Kozlovska, Oksana Auškalnytė-Mockuvienė, Ernesta Stankutė, Mindaugas Rojus, Tadas Jakas, Valdas Kazlauskas, Vilius Trakys, Giedrius Gečys, Farshad Abbasabadi and others.

Huge focus on national authors and works

Stanislavas Domarkas in 1957 graduated from the Klaipėda Music School (current Klaipėda S. Šimkaus Conservatory). 1957 – 1962 studied oboe at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theater. in 1967 graduated from the Faculty of Symphonic Conducting of the St. Petersburg Conservatory.

From 1967 to 1989, S. Domarkas worked as the director of the Kaunas State Musical Theater. conductor, 1993 – 1995 Klaipėda State Musical Theater manager. conductor. S. Domarkas from 1995 to 2005 was the director of the Klaipėda State Musical Theater.

Music initiative in 1998 Klaipėda Music Theater organized the 1st International Festival of Opera and Symphonic Music “Musical August on the Seaside”, which grew into the Klaipėda International Festival.

S. Domark’s creative biography includes more than 40 productions of stage works, a number of original symphonic programs that have not been performed in Lithuania so far. The maestro has performed several times with the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra, conducted symphony orchestras in Latvia, Poland, Germany, Holland.

in 1993 S. Domarkas formed the Symphony Orchestra of Little Lithuania, which prepared and presented new symphonic and concert programs once a month.

He paid great attention to national authors and promoted their works. in 1997 The premiere of the first national work after the restoration of Lithuania’s Independence took place – Giedrius Kuprevičius’s opera “Prūsai”. S. Domarkas also inspired the premiere of Audronė Žigaitytė’s opera “Žilvinas ir Eglė” on August 24, 2002. Klaipėda composers often encouraged new ideas.

S. Domarkas actively participated in the musical and cultural life of Klaipėda and the entire Western Lithuania region. He especially encouraged the creative education of young Klaipėda performers. He organized concerts of the Young Talents and the Symphony Orchestra of Little Lithuania every year.

For his services to Lithuanian culture, S. Domarkas has been awarded various government awards: in 1975 – Honored Artist of Lithuania, 2003 – Honorary citizen of Plunge, 2003 – Honorary Associate Professor at the Conservatory of Reggia Calabria (Italy), 2004. – Klaipėda Master of Culture, 2018 – was awarded the “Maske of Gratitude” of the city of Klaipėda for his services to theater art.
